            Growing up a sea captain’s daughter in rural Mathews County, Virginia, in the area between the Mobjack and Chesapeake Bays, has given me a lifetime appreciation of my natural surroundings.

 As a young girl, I wondered if I would ever be able to capture, as a painting, the heron that patroled our creek or the early morning fog that rolled out as the sun warmed the day.  I pondered over the waves in the Bay and shells in the surf, visualizing how to transfer those images onto canvas.  The ever-changing, magnificent sunsets across Mobjack and lovely Chesapeake and East Coast lighthouses offered limitless possibilities.  These memories, etched in my being over the years, surfaced later when I finally began to seriously paint in oils.
